First time scrapbooker questions?

I am very new to scrap booking and I went to hobby lobby today to checkout the scrap booking aisle. I felt so overwhelmed, I didn't realize how much there is to scrap booking. Just so I can get started, is there a particular scrapbook type that is better than another? (the binder book, the book with the screws or the book with the hook loops? I'm not sure exactly what they are specifically called now but I saw3 different kinds. Next question is is there any special glue or adhesive to use when gluing down the little appliques or different colored pieces of paper? Any help or suggestions to helping me get started would be greatly appreciated.
