Is hertfordshire?

Hertfordshire is lovely particularly St. Albans, Bushey, Radlett, Aldenham and Harpenden which are the most expensive. Yes rent in the nicer areas is expensive, much the same as anywhere. There is lovely countryside particularly around St. Albans/Harpenden/Aldenham. Good things - low crime rates, mostly middle cl residents in 'nicer' areas, lovely countryside, nice shops. Bad things - expensive. Potters Bar has large council estate and parts are well rough.
