1 gas fire 1 coal fire in front room smoke problem?

The problem i have here is i have a gas fire and coal fire in the same front room, when i run the coal fire and shut the front room door it draws the fumes back down the chimney to the gas fire side. I dont get this problem if i open the door a bit, do i need an air brick for ventilation? because there does nt seem to be any?
